책은 상상의 세계를 끝없이 확장하게 하는 매개체다. 독자들은 책 속에서 시공간의 제약 없이 어디로든 여행할 수 있다. 책을 통해 얻은 지식의 높이와 감상의 깊이 만큼 정신적으로 더 넓은 세계를 경험할 수 있다. 그러한 정신적 경험은 현실 세계에 중요한 영향을 미친다. 현실 세상과 그 안에 속한 자기자신을 다양한 각도에서 바라보고 이해할 수 있게 하기 때문이다. 그런 의미에서 책은 자기 내면으로 들어가는 문이기도 하고, 세상 밖으로 나가는 문이기도 하다.

책과 그림 모두 인간의 사유와 감상을 진보시켜왔고, 사유는 책을 통해서, 감상은 그림을 통해서 좀 더 발전되어 왔다. 책을 읽을때 우리는 어떤 구체적인 이미지를 머릿속에 떠올리기도 하고, 그림에 대한 원초적 감상이 머릿속에서 언어로 전환 되기도 한다. 그러한 사유와 감상의 밀접한 연관을 생각했을 때, 그 둘을 분리시키는 것은 불가능하다. 한마디로, 표현 방법이 다를 뿐, 뒤섞여 있는 영역이다. 적어도 내게는 그렇다.

Promenade에 실린 그림들은 의도적으로 푸른 계열의 색조를 사용했다. 이 책의 큰 주제는 상상의 세계를 끝없이 확장하게 하는 책, 그 세계에 대한 동경과 애경이다. 각각의 그림은 저마다의 독립된 메시지를 갖고 있지만, 한권의 그림책으로 묶였을 때 하나의 공통된 메시지를 전하기도 한다. 책이 지금까지 인간의 정신세계에 미친 영향, 그리고 아직 쓰여지지 않은 책들이 앞으로 우리에게 보여줄 미지의 영역… 그런 이미지들을 초현실적으로 구상하면서 자연스럽게 푸른 계열의 색조를 기본적인 분위기로 유지했다.
